Off-White Resort 2021 Collection
Sartorial style according to Virgil Abloh
July 23rd, 2020
I thought of this muse, sort of half businessman, half youthful teenager—and how they can crash together. I look at Off-White as my diary. It’s a clothing brand that is periodically checking in on what we’re learning and trying to put that in the collection.
Virgil Abloh said, revealing the inspiration behind Off-White's Resort 2021 collection. The designer leaves streetwear aside to explore sartorial fashion and presents a series of garments that combine elegance and social commitment. Military-style coats and formal suits with clean lines combine with ripped jeans on which the seams stand out; pants are either ultra-fit or loose, broken at the calf to provide freedom of movement and comfort; the silhouette of blazers is focused on the shoulders. The formal style of the collection is interrupted by a vein of nonconformity, of rebellion that is evident not only in the unconventional poses of the models but also in the details. On hoodies, t-shirts and gloves appear messages and illustrations that tell Abloh's commitment and position on environment and inclusiveness such as I Support Young Black Businesses or What Stars Are You Under? but also designs of monsters or the suffering world.
Also for the women's collection, entitled Bohemian Blur, tailoring is the key theme. From blush to pink, mauve to black, beige to grey, the shades dissolve into each other, creating a movement effect on jackets, puff sleeve shirts and cut out details, asymmetric skirts and cargo trousers. These "blurred" items alternate with romantic pleated and glittered dresses, basic pieces such as the classic white or blue shirt and others that will become essentials of the season's female wardrobe such as the red double-breasted blazer and the mini perfecto.
