The Northwave Espresso sneakers are making their comeback
90s Vibes
June 18th, 2020
"I want to go back to the nineties", sang DJ Matrix, Paps'n'Skar and Vise in one of the songs-manifesto from the most debated decade in the fashion history. Love it or hate it, the Nineties marked a generation and its aesthetics. This summer, the 90's vibes are back thanks to Northwave Espresso, a cult sneaker from the 90s inspired by the snowboard boots from the 80s.
For their come back, Northwave re-proposes the iconic silhouette of its excellent sneaker by combining the oversized sole typical of snowboard boots with the body of a traditional, much more casual sneaker.
Founded in 1972 by Gianni Piva in Montebelluna, the Calzaturificio Piva (this was its name back at the time) was Italian excellence in the footwear industry. The international turning point came in 1989, when it bought the Japanese brand Northwave, specialized in sports equipment for cycling and snowboarding. After making their debut in 1991, the Northwave Espresso revolutionized the world of sneakers and street culture of the nineties, becoming real icons.
