London Fashion Week. Under the Victorian glass vault of the Kensington Olympia Exhibition Centre, on the notes played on the piano by the twins Katia and Marielle Labeque in collaboration with artist and producer Arca, Burberry presents Memories, its new collection. While the front row crowded with stars such as Naomi Campell, Cate Blanchett, FKA Twigs, Lourdes Leon, Mahmood, Hunter Schafer, Luka Sabbat, applauds, on the catwalk, Irina Shayk, Gigi e Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Joan Smalls wear Riccardo Tisci's creations.
For the FW20 season, Tisci looks back to his past, combining the brand's heritage and codes with memories linked to three places that shaped his life: Italy where he grew up, London where he studied, India where he moved after graduating. The result is a series of contemporary tailoring garments that mix street style and equestrian inspiration. Double lapel trench coats, duffle coats, coats with shearling or eco fur collars, quilted jackets meet the iconic check, declined in every possible variation, from Tartan to Prince of Wales, up to Madras. If during the day the real protagonists are the outerwear, worn over bustier or rugby style polo shirts, for the evening the outfits are enriched with metallic mesh dresses, fringes, animal prints and chains. Among the accessories, the new Olympia bag catches the eye.
The collection confirms Burberry's commitment to sustainability. The brand, which plans to eliminate plastic packaging by 2025, chose a location with sustainability certification for its London show and to ensure that it was zero impact it avoided the use of electric vehicles and the use of air transport. The Regeneration Fund of the fashion house led by Marco Gobbetti will work to reduce the environmental impact of its supply chain, working to promote biodiversity and support local producers, but will also invest in eco-friendly initiatives such as Pur Project, which promotes regenerative farming practices among Australian wool producers working with Burberry.
