Do you remember Love Boat, the 80s TV series set on a cruise ship?
Add Harmony Korine's talent and the atmosphere of his The Beach Bum, a film starring Matthew McConaughey facing the ocean, swimming pools, flamingos, beaches, Hawaiian shirts and lots of drugs, and you'll have the new Gucci holiday campaign. Once again Alessandro Michele entrusts the American director with the task of transforming his inspirations and obsessions into images and the result is an atypical Christmas, far from the usual winter wonderland, but, instead, made of engaging stories that intertwine on board, between sunny beaches, parties, drinks, dances, dinners and laughs. Everything is glamorous, ironic, festive, almost psychedelic.
The protagonist is the Gift Giving 2019 collection, a selection of ready-to-wear garments, shoes and accessories made in the new GG fabric printed with flowers and insects in the bright colors typical of the Gucci Flora pattern, and finished in red, yellow or white leather.
The campaign also includes an immersive digital experience, with an augmented reality portal available to users of the brand's app and also on Snapchat that will take them to a virtual tropical psychedelic island where several holographic elements in fluorescent colors recalling Korine's images. There is also an ad hoc Instagram filter.
