The famous Jungle dress worn by JLo inspires the new Chain Reaction Concepts x Versace
The iconic dress continues to influence contemporary fashion
July 16th, 2019
Concepts joins forces with Versace to create a new version of the sneaker Chain Reaction. The streetwear retailer looks back on Maison's history and finds inspiration in of its most iconic dress: the emerald green Jungle-dress in silk chiffon worn by Jennifer Lopez at the 2000 Grammy Awards.
The print of that garment now becomes the protagonist of the shoe's nylon upper. The characteristic chain link on the white sole completes the look of the sneaker along with calfskin trim, mesh inserts, Chain Reaction logo on the rubber tongue, green rope laces and a green Medusa head on the rear.
Once again the Jungle-dress created by Donatella Versace in 1999 returns as the protagonist of contemporary fashion. Here's all you need to know about the most iconic garment of the last twenty years.
- Jennifer Lopez wore it on the red carpet of the 2000 Grammys, after falling in love with it at first sight. In order to show it off alongside her then-boyfriend, Puff Daddy, without showing off her breasts from her deep neckline, the hems of the dress were stopped with scotch. Despite this, this Versace dress has become one of the sexiest and most scandalous dresses of all time. Now the dress is in JLo's closet as she says in this video.
- Before Lopez, the emerald green dress had already been worn by Amber Valletta, Geri Halliwell and Donatella Versace.
- It is the dress that "invented" Google Images. Many call it the most influential garment ever because it marked a small revolution. In 2000 the web was becoming more and more social and, after having seen it on JLo, and, once the image was published online, the search to find, look at and download the look increased immediately. So much so that Google decided to launch Google Images.
- It's the only dress to have a Wikipedia page dedicated to it.
- On the occasion of the Versace Pre-Fall 2019 fashion show, Donatella decided to bring back the iconic model and brought back on the catwalk Amber Valletta who wore the same dress in 1999. The new version ditched the jungle print and opted for a rain of red, orange, blue and green hearts inspired by pop artist Jim Dine who created the motif for Gianni Versace in 1997.
The Chain Reaction by Concepts x Versace will be available from July 19 on Concepts website and in Concepts Boston and NYC stores at a price of $1,075.
