The effective design of the Vibram Wrap Tech sole
An innovative sole for the brand that is changing the rules of the sneaker game
July 3rd, 2019
In 1936 the idea of Vitale Bramani, founder of Vibram, to make shoe soles with the same technique used to produce pneumatics has deeply changed the way of understanding and practising extreme sports, marking historical achievements such as the conquering of the top of K2. The sole design went on to influence the casual lifestyle, thanks to the continuous contamination of activewear and gorpcore also for the big streetwear brands, which brought Vibram to the centre of the sneaker game.
One of the latest products from the Vibram Technological Center in Guangzhou (China) and in Albizzate headquarters (Varese) is the sole Vibram Wrap Tech, an evolution of the idea behind Vibram Furoshiki, the winner of the Compasso D'Oro in 2018, the oldest and most prestigious industrial design award in the world.
In addition to the quality and safety standards that have always been at the center of the brand's projects, the sneaker goes towards a decisive aesthetic choice, minimizing the production waste of the heat-sealed sole, creating the effect of irregular and unconventional surface, also thanks to the strong color choice. The new concept of Wrap Tech thus makes Vibram the protagonist also of the debate concerning sustainability in fashion, which has always been part of the company's core business.
Waterproofness, extreme grip thanks to the Vibram Megagrip technology, and lightness, due to Vibram Litebase, remain elements of a style that is strengthened also thanks to avant-garde models such as the FiveFingers - which we saw on the feet of Cristiano Ronaldo - or to the collaborations that the brand is pursuing in recent years, the lastest one with Matthew Williams and Nike.
