Pharrell unveils the Chanel capsule
With a video teaser inspired by the Japanese animated film Akira
March 26th, 2019
The hype for the latest project that sees Chanel and Pharrell together continues to grow. And the details begin to multiply. After appearing in February on GQ France, the star, brand ambassador of the French fashion house since 2014, is the protagonist of both a long photo shoot on Harper's Bazaar Korea and a teaser video, followed by a backstage video, which give us a preview of the new capsule collection. The proposal, designed by Williams together with Karl Lagerfeld, perfectly combines the Chanel heritage enhanced by characteristic elements such as the double C logo with the street and hyper-colored mood that made Pharrell's style famous. Coco Pharrell (the name was chosen by Kaiser Karl himself) includes a wide and vitaminic selection of about 40 pieces ranging from t-shit color blocks to sweatshirts, from leather moccasins to sneakers, from belts to bathrobes, from bucket hats in sponge with rhinestone jewelery, from sunglasses to backpacks and oversize shopper.
Interviewed by Loïc Prigent, the singer expressed his enthusiasm for collaboration, an example, according to the star, of how Chanel manages to break the boundaries between different sectors, entrusting to a singer the role of co-designer even if only for one limited edition capsules. Asked then about the number "5" which appears on many pieces, he explained that it is not only a reference to the famous perfume of the maison, but also represents his birthday. The release for the collection is scheduled for April 4 at the Chanel boutiques, but will be brought forward, only for Korea, to March 29, the date of inauguration of the new flagship in Seoul.
Fun fact: the teaser video published on Pharrell's account is inspired by the Japanese animated film Akira and has a varied cast that includes Soo Joo Park, Yoon Young Bae, Adesuwa Aighewi, AltonMason and Anok Yai.
