5 fashion trends directly from the FW19 menswear shows
What we're going to wear next season
January 26th, 2019
We've been closely following the FW19 menswear shows, moving between London, Milan and Paris, giving out our very own nss Fashion Awards to the most talented designers, to the best creations and to the sneakers that we really can't stop thinking about. Between debuts, disappointments and certainities the catwalks have nonetheless shown clearly what will be next season's trends. We've selected here the best 5.
Orange
There's no story. From the FW19 runways it seems that the nuance that will dominate next season is only one, orange. Heron Preston's favourite color becomes strong and energetic, adding a streetwear touch to items that can't go unnoticed.
Leather
Not the usual leather jacket. For this season, leather becomes the go-to fabric to revisit and reimagine country inspired shirts, cargo pants, refined trenches. Hedi Slimane at Celine uses it for double-breasted blazers to be worn under the coat, but at Fendi leather goes through the most dramatic transformation, turning into silk, designed for shirts that hug the shoulders. There's a new variety in colors too, besides the classic black we find pastel tones and a wide range of beiges.
Waist Bag
The ultimate and essential accessory. The waist bag trend is still going strong, both in the classic sportswear version, as seen at Heron Preston or Vetements, but also in an unprecedented luxury reiteration, inspired by iconic bags like the Baguette or the Saddle, respectively from Fendi and Dior. Virgil Abloh takes the further step by incorporating the waist bag in the duvet.
Belts
Long, super long, with the buckle inspired by the closure of the airplane safety belts; with keychains, chains or carabiner, or to be worn in triplets. The belt is the accessory that adds an extra touch to a simple outfit, most of the times becoming also an utilitarian object, therefore practical.
Scarf
There are two types of scarves to pick. One is extra long, running almost to the feet, often knitted, colorful, narrow or very wide as seen at LV and SUNNEI. Otherwise, there's the shorter version, more discrete, to be hidden under the jacket like at Celine, or turning almost into a football scarf as at Versace.
