A Brief history of Bike Shorts
From Chanel to Kim Kardashian, everyone loves them
January 3rd, 2019
It's impossible to deny it: bike shorts are experiencing an important moment in fashion. We thought we were finally free from them and, instead, the designers decided to exhume this skeleton from the collective closet. Yes, because this item of fashion has become tremendously cool in recent months, has had great fortune in the '80s, the decade obsessed with aerobics and body culture, but above all in the 90s, the era in which, thanks to telefilms like Clarissa explains it all or Saved by the Bell, we all showed them off not only in the gym, but also under dresses and maxi T-shirts.
So, if Kith, Fenty Puma by Rihanna, Fendi, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Saint Laurent, Tommy Hilfiger and many other brands have proposed them on the catwalk, most of them have been inspired by those who, in the past, included the cycling shorts in their everyday rotation. Some examples? Lady D was the muse of Off-White's SS18 collection and Axl Rose for Alexander Wang. Some have proposed this hot item in its most basic, monochromatic and lycra stretch version, while others have left their imagination free, creating them in lace, denim, printed, colorful, metallic, ... The only one to wear all these models, mixing them in every possible way was obviously Kim Kardashian. Kanye West's wife has put the bike shorts in every kind of outfit, combining them with hairy slides and heels, bomber and blazer, crop top and mini dress. This is a contagious passion that has influenced not only the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan or the Hadid sisters, but anyone with a minimum of fashionista ambition.
So if the cyclists returned popular is all Kim's fault? Yes, at least in large part because the millennials can't resist to the fashion diktats of the American star, but her fault should be shared with the protagonists of the TV series and the sports world of the 80s and 90s. Take a look below for evidence.
