CFDA Awards 2018: all you need to know Last night the American fashion Oscars awarded Donatella Versace, Kim Kardashian, Raf Simons, Supreme and many more

Last night, within the walls of the Brooklyn Museum, the Oscars of American fashion were awarded.

During the ceremony, presented by actress and comedian Issa Rae, the most important figures of contemporary style took turns on the stage, from Donatella Versace, winner of the International Award, to Naomi Campbell, Fashion Icon of the Year. Among the winners stood Raf Simons best designer womenswear for his work at Calvin Klein, and Supreme as best designer menswear, but also Kim Kardashian, Influencer of the Year, was unexpectedly the most ironic of the evening.

Lots of stars in the audience came in support of their favorite brands from Cate Blanchett to Lupita Nyong'o, Claire Danes to Sarah Paulson, Gigi Hadid to Kendall Jenner, Emily Ratajkowski to Kaia Gerber.

Here's everything you need to know.

Kim Kardashian's acceptance speech

Kim Kardashian, accompanied by sisters Kourtney Kardashian and Kendall Jenner and wearing a white two-piece look by Rick Owens which emphasized her curves, received the first Influencer of the Year Award.

Accepting the recognition drew on her sense of humor as she, jokingly, said:

"I’m kind of shocked I’m winning a fashion award when I’m naked most of the time." KK

Then she became serious:

"I mean, it was maybe seven years ago when I had a publicist and she asked what I—what were my goals, what were my dreams, and I said I just want to be on the cover of a fashion magazine, and she said to me, ‘Let’s get some realistic goals ‘cause that’ll never happen.’ And so of course I sent her my Vogue cover when it came out, an autographed copy, but so it’s really a trip to me that now I’m up here getting an award for fashion when it’s something that I’ve always loved so thank you so much for this. It means a lot." KK

To complete Kim's idyllic moment, a video message from Kanye West and their son Saint arrived, after which the reality star reminded her husband of his style:

"He really helps me with all my looks and my makeover if you want to call it that. He is my best stylist."

The winners

The most unexpected award goes to James Jebbia and Supreme for Menswear Designer of the Year, while one of the most well-deserved awards certainly, goes to the brilliant Raf Simons for his work at Calvin Klein's womenswear.

Among the names celebrated during the evening were Ralph Lauren, Donatella Versace, the sixth Italian in history to receive the International Award, Diane von Furstenberg and Edward Enninful, director of Vogue UK, awarded with the Media Award.

Naomi Campbell was the protagonist of one of the most moving moments of the event. The supermodel, during her speech of giving thanks for the fashion icon award, wiping away her tears, addressed herself to the audience:

"I was told many times that I couldn’t do certain things because of the color of my skin, I let it drive me. And of course I'm human, and I found it hard at times not to take it personally. But I stand here today as a proud woman of color, and I will continue to push for diversity and equality in this industry. NK"

Strangely, being a fashion-dedicated ceremony, last night did not shine for style.

On the red carpet the many stars did not show off amazing looks, but if there is a trend to underline, it's the return of color ... spring air? Maybe.

Among the most interesting outfits we have to point out Kim Kardashian in her white skirt and top by Rick Owens, Naomi Campbell in a red Calvin Klein dress, Mary-Kate Olsen, and Ashley Olsen in total black, Kendall Jenner in a feathered creation by Alexandre Vauthier and the actress Amber Heard in a Michael Kors suit.
