The official news has finally arrived: Virgil Abloh is the new creative director of Louis Vuitton's menswear.

After so many rumors here is the confirmation of Michael Burke, President and CEO of the French Maison:

“Having followed with great interest Virgil’s ascent since he worked with me at Fendi in 2006, I am thrilled to see how his innate creativity and disruptive approach have made him so relevant, not just in the world of fashion but in popular culture today. His sensibility towards luxury and savoir-faire will be instrumental in taking Louis Vuitton’s menswear into the future”.

The appointment of the founder of Off-White, an eclectic talent that has been able to reposition the streetwear in the luxury segment, at the creative helm of LV is yet another proof of how vital is the exchange between high fashion and street at this time.

Abloh, winner of the International Designer of the Year award at the 2017 GQ Men of the Year Awards, declares himself honored to accept the position of artistic director and announces:

"I find the heritage and creative integrity of the house are key inspirations and will look to reference them both while drawing parallels to modern. The first thing I am going to do is define new codes. My muse has always been what people actually wear, and I am really excited to make a luxury version of that.”

Who knows how Vigil will reinvent the tradition of an iconic brand like Louis Vuitton...to know it we should wait until June, when the designer of Ghana origin will present his first collection for LV during the Paris Fashion Week.
