Everything you should know about the atmos x Nike "Animal Pack 2.0"
Are you ready to relive the past?
March 6th, 2018
Hidefumi Hommyo inaugurates atmos in Harajuku, Tokyo in 2000.
In 2001, after only one year of activity, Nike proposed to Hommayo to collaborate and to create together for the very first time an Air Max 1.
The choice was targeted: the silhouette of the Air Max was going to the largest in Tokyo, and every Japanese sneakerhead owned at least a pair. The collaboration was kept secret until the time of the launch, even Nike Japan was not aware of it, but the sneaker had such a huge success that it went immediately sold out.
It was only the first of a long series of collaborations, not only with Nike but with all the biggest sneakers' brands, reaching a total amount of about 200/300 collaborations.
And it is in 2006 that the atmos Animal Pack saw the light where the silhouettes of the Air Max 1 and Air Max 95 had been covered in pony hair with different animal textures. The choice of materials and colors also, in this case, was not accidental.
As Hidefumi Hommyo himself stated several times, the taste of the Japanese public is totally different from that of European and American consumers. The Japanese loves details, and have a particularly refined taste in color's pairing and combinations. While American consumers go crazy for the Jordan Retro, Japanese customers prefer the Air Max, and they would never wear something that is not perfectly matched to their outfit.
The rest is history. The story is about to make its big return to the market on Air Max Day 2018, or maybe it's now time to say Air Max Month. One of the most desired collaborations in the world of streetwear returns this year with the classic Nike Air Max 95 and Air Max 1 silhouettes. Unlike the OG version, that had a pony hair cream sull'upper, the 2018 edition will be paint in black.
