Christopher Bailey to leave Burberry in 2018
And insisting rumors sees Phoebe Philo as his successor
November 2nd, 2017
The announcement has left everyone open: Christopher Bailey, Burberry's historic creative director for the last 17 years, will hang the nail trench in 2018.
According to WWD, the company stated to "begin the next decade of its journey" and that "it was the right time for Christopher to pursue his creative projects.
"Christopher will remain Chairman and Chief Creative Officer until March 31, 2018, when he leaves the Board and will give full support to Managing Director Marco Gobbetti and the team during the transition until December 31, 2018", Burberry said.
After the announcement, the first bets and the first rumors on who will replace Bailey start to merge and the best-known speculations direct to Phoebe Philo, currently engaged by Cèline despite insistent more or less official voices declaring that he will soon leave position - maybe just to take that of Bailey from Burberry.
The only certainty is that anyone who takes over as the creative director of the British brand will be dealing with a brand and a company that is very different from what we are now accustomed to knowing, ready to embark on a new journey.
