Cubist invitation, boater hats, tweed and #chaneltower
July 5th, 2017
Paris Haute Couture has started. After Dior and his girls-safari, it’s up to Chanel's house to charm the world of fashion.
Here’s everything you need to know about the show created by Lagerfeld.
Invitation
The invitation to the show? The reproduction of an oil painting on the Eiffel Tower realized in 1926 by Robert Delaunay. Again Lagerfeld pays homage to the iconic structure of the Ville Lumiere, chosen because
“a symbol of modern avant-garde”.
If the invitation protagonist is Mr. Delaunay, the inspiration for some of the models in the collection are the circular paintings of his wife Sonia. The swirling shapes of her work have become sequined and crystals decorations for a series of evening dresses.
Set
After making a rocket, a giant iceberg, a supermarket, and even an airport, for the latest Chanel show Karl Lagerfeld re-creates the Eiffel Tower inside the Grand Palais and launches the hashtag #Chaneltower.
Under the monument symbol of Paris, the floor is covered with gravel. Guests are seated on folding dark green metal folding chairs, the same that throng the Jardin du Luxembourg.
Front Row
As usual, the front row is full of stars at Chanel.
Sitting on the green metal chairs are waiting for the show, among others, Julianne Moore, Caroline de Maigret, Anna Wintour, Pharrell Williams, Aziz Ansari, Tilda Swinton, Sofia Coppola Lily Collins, Cara Delevingne, Katy Perry and Kristen Stewart, all three with the new cut blond hair and ultra-short.
The most photographed? The actress of Twilight, admired in a strapless black catsuit, full of sequins.
The collection
The main protagonist in Chanel Haute Couture 2018 collection? Tweed. The symbol fabric, along with the jersey, of the Maison was chosen for dresses, trapeze skirts, hooded coats and wide leg suits.
All this combined with boater hats and big pearl earrings full Coco Chanel style. At the patent leather booties in black paint from mood Belle Epoque.
The young French model Camille Hurel opens the fashion show.
Hair & Make Up
Beautiful makeup created by Tom Pecheux for the eyes, a rainbow palette formed by yellow, magenta, royal blue, green grass.
The styling of the hair, by Sam McKnight is sophisticated and simple: a looped ponytail.
