Sneakers to release this weekend
From February 10th to 12th, 2017
February 10th, 2017
This week load of fresh stuff is about to drop. Unfortunately most of the hottest release will be exremely limited and exclusive. So this week will leave you poor or desperately unsatisfied. However what’s coming on it’s the proof of the ever-increasing interest of cult fashion brands and designers to put themselves in the sneaker game. The results this time had been quite interesting. When a designer finds himself reworking classic a sneaker, he can choose two different approaches: one is to work hard on fabrics and small details in order, emphasize the silhouette and make something special for the fans of that specific shoe, the other way is reshaping the shoe as much as possible, adding or removing major parts, in order to imprint it with his own style. There are clear examples of both these philosophies this week. Enjoy!
#1 Nike Air Force 1 X Acronym Downtown High
A massive reshaping of the original design from 1982 by Bruce Kilgore. The shoes features an high-cut boot lookalike shape and a lock down compression strap. Leather and neoprene were the selected fabrics for this shoe that will drop in three colorways: Black/Black/Medium Olive, Black/Black/Bright Chrimson and Black/White/Medium Olive. The style totally recalls Acronym’s unique taste for technical garments. For sure these ones will not convince every AF1 aficionado, nor every technical boot maniac, because of its massive reshape from on side and because of its being too much of an hybrid from the other. However, as we saw with the Nike Air Presto x Acronym, a larger crowd of sneaker fans just stated digging this kind of heavily hybrid shoes. This could maybe be the down of a brand new sneaker era…
#2 Comme des Garçons X Nike Dunk High "Clear"
Apart from the highly anticipated Vapormax model, seen at Comme des Garçons SS17 runway show, another exclusive collab with Nike is coming this week. CDG x Nike Dunk High pictures could have been spottend on the internet for long, but little less was known for sure about this shoes, untile the official release date was announced. The shoe presents clear toebox and side panels, in alternation with black leather and mesh. They are a GDG Chealsea store in NYC exclusive. These shoes really close to something that would fit better the asian market. But even if they’re maybe a little weird to western avarage sneaker buyer, there will be for sure collectors capable to appreciate such a peculiar style. Really not something for old schoolers, but for sure something remarkable.
#3 Riccardo Tisci x Nike Dunk Lux Chukka
Nike x Tisci collaborations have lately lose some grip on the sneakerfreaks audience. One could often see them overshadowed by way more hyped releases in recent times. But with the recent claim around Riccardo Tisci decision to leave the house Givenchy, where the designer have been creative director for over a decade, the attention on his sneaker collabs can easily revamp. Tisci is an expert when it comes to add that touch of luxury to a classic shoe. In this case he choosed to give a stong 80’s basketball look to his new design fo Nike. The oversized silhouette matches with the tumblered leather detail. The Dunk Lux Chukka will be released in three colorways: Black/White, White/Red White/Black. The best way to undestand what Tisci had in mind with this new collaborations is to let Tisci speak for himself. This is what he recently said about Nike Dunks: “I think the Dunk has something that’s very special. It’s grounded in sport as well as in the street style culture. For younger generations it can fit as many different styles tribes as you can imagine. I think it’s one of the most iconic shoes that Nike has ever created”.
#4 YEEZY Boost 350 V2 “Bred”
YEEZY madness is maybe coming to an end? The most wanted and seeked after sneaker of recent years lost a bit of its charm recently due to the elevated number of drops in a short time and the bigger stocks for each release. The resell prices for last drop decreased consistently, reaching the lowest record for a YEEZY 350. Yet the YEEZY 350 V2 have increased construction and quality standards, especially the mid sole that was maybe the only real flaw of the V1 has been improved in the V2. The V2 “Bred” coming out this week are maybe the perfect shoes to take YEEZY 350 out of the cul-de-sac they entered. The shoe features a full core black primeknit upper with solar red SPLY-350 branding and also sees the return of matching heel tab that wasn’t present in the last drops. The shoes will come out in men and infant sizes. Maybe the now-sleepy YEEZY hype will soon revive.
#5 VLONE X Nike Air Force 1 Low
This for sure is the most hyped shoe of the week and probably one of the hottest drops of 2017. These AF1 in collaboration with VLONE and its co-founder A$AP Bari come in the signature brand’s colors: black premium leather with orange higlights and the brand motto: “Every Living Creature Dies Alone” embroidered on the back. The shoe itself pays homage to Harlem street culture and that’s the reason why they will be launched exclusively at the VLONE pop-up store in Harlem. Some sample of these AF1 low have already been auctioned online for crazy amounts. One was already sold for 19,000$. So if you want to grab a pair, hope you’ve been saving, because these ones won’t resell for low.
