Juergen Teller will curate an exhibition of Robert Mapplethorpe's work
@ Alison Jacques Gallery, London
August 4th, 2016
London’s Alison Jacques Gallery celebrates Robert Mapplethorpe’s 70th birthday with Teller on Mapplethorpe, a retrospective curated by Juergen Teller which showcases the visionary work of the American photographer, disappeared in 1989.
"Provocative and subversive, making images which are the antithesis of conventional fashion photography and, most importantly, a key artist of his time, Juergen Teller was the only choice to curate this special exhibition of Robert's work. There are obvious parallels between these artists and I am excited to see how Juergen will bring his edge, energy and unique vision to a new reading of Robert's work" said the gallery’s founder.
The exhibition follows Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures (2016), the HBO documentary which retraces his life from his childhood in the suburbs of Queens to his lucky encounter with Patti Smith until the worldwide success as a photographer.
Teller on Mapplethorpe will be running from November 18th, 2016 until January 7th, 2017.
