Sofia Coppola is working on a new movie with Kirsten Dunst (Elle Fanning & Nicole Kidman)

After having renounced to the direction of The Little Mermaid’s remake, Sofia Coppola has just unveiled the details of her next project – which promises to be a masterpiece.

We are talking of the remake of The Beguiled, 1971 film directed by Don Siegel based on Thomas P. Cullinan’s novel, starring a young Clint Eastwood. In the original version, Jonathan (Eastwood) is found injured in a field during the Civil War. A girl takes him to her all-female Confederate boarding school, where he becomes the object of desire of many female carachters – in a role very close to the one of Terence Stamp in Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Teorema (1968) – triggering dangerous mechanisms of jealousy and revenge.

The female characters chosen by Coppola for her version of the movie are once again the expression of her refined and ethereal taste: Nicole Kidman will play Martha, the Institute Head Mistress, Kirsten Dunst will put herself in the shoes of a teacher while Elle Fanning will play the role of a student residing at the house. The male protagonist hasn’t been announced yet, but we expect the choice of a particularly charming actor.

Once again, the director will stage the life of brilliant women with tormented souls, investigated through their innermost desires.

While we wait for the new version of the movie, here’s the trailer of the original one:
