Virgil Abloh launches his first furniture line
The Framing Collection
March 22nd, 2016
Virgil Abloh is a multi-faceted artist. He is Kanye West's right hand man, works as a DJ and in 2014 has founded his own streetwear brand based in Milan, Off-White, which immediately gained immense popularity.
Despite his deep commitment to fashion, Abloh decided to go back to his roots: with a degree in engineering and a master in architecture, he has just launched his first furniture line - The Framing Collection. What fascinated him was the concept of durability, in opposition to the ephemeral life of clothes.
However, there are many aspects his two projects have in common: “the grill is a key theme for me” the designer told Numéro, “it’s inspired by the architecture of Mies Van der Rohe, the rational distribution of weight of a building, from the ground up to the roof, draws this pattern. The idea to show the structure rather than hide it, was essential for Mies Van der Rohe too”.
The line – entirely produced in Italy – is composed of two parts: the first is the one you see below, the second will be unveiled in galleries around the world at the end of 2016.
