In Italy you can find one at every street corner, many of them are open and attended, others are closed and became the object of curiosity of art lovers. Churches and cathedrals once told with figures what people, for lack of education, couldn't read in the sacred texts. Now they tell the stories and often contradictions between what should respect the feelings of charity and humility, and luxury ostentation.
Abandoned churches are also a veritable archive of decorations, paintings and frescoes. In Llanera, Spain, a Gothic structure built in 1912 and ruined by the civil war has been renovated and decorated by a contemporary "Michelangelo", Okuda San Miguel, and turned into a skate park: the requalification project, initially supported by Kickstarter, has been so successful it's been now adopted by the Red Bull Studios.
Where before there were angels and saints you can now see huge skulls and monkey faces in colorful shdes, constellations form the silhouettes of doves and the sunlight filtering through the windows fills the space with rainbows: a masterpiece of design and restoration.
