Can you spell the world transgression?
July 22nd, 2015
Even if Ibiza has become nowadays a quite commercial destination mostly chosen by young people looking for summer madness, it was once considered a “pleasure Island”, a paradise for anyone looking for relax on a white beach and fun at night, with style.
In Ibiza you can find some of the most popular historic clubs of the world, like Amnesia or Pacha, which launched the career of international DJs and on the floors of which many celebs on holiday had loads of fun.
If in the '70s Ibiza has been the cradle of the hippie movement, with its flower parties and its libertine people; in the '80s it has become a paradise for disco lovers. Not only loud music 'till the morning light but also animation and transgressive disguises, memorable pool parties, glitters and sequins.
Some photographers of the time, like British Derek Ridgers, have been inspired by the libertine atmospheres of the Island to shoot highly transgressive reportages that, if seen today, make us dream we were there at that time to make us live that genuine folly again.
We selected 10 iconic images shot in Ibiza in that decade and we present them to you here, with a bit of malincholy.
