Fashion Muse di Gennaio: Arushi Khosla aka FabBla

Solitamente sono io a contattare le fashion bloggers per proporre loro un’intervista. Bhe, questa volta sono rimasta decisamente spiazzata quando è stata la protagonista di questo mese a contattare me. Mi si presenta dicendo: “I'm aware you get tons of such requests but I'm positive you have not featured anyone from India before and I think this could be fabulous and fresh!”. Si, perchè Arushi Khosla, autrice del blog FabBla viene dalla lontana Nuova Delhi, ed effettivamente una musa del mese indiana Naplestreetstyle non l’aveva mai avuta! Ha solo 16 anni ma le idee chiarissime, le sue risposte sono state lunghe ed esaustive, date uno sguardo…

ENGLISH VERSION 

1. Cos’è lo stile per te?
Lo stile non riguarda ciò che indossi. Riguarda l’essere naturale. Se indossi un paio di ankle boots di 300 dollari e giri per strada come se stessi dicendo “guardatemi, indosso delle scarpe fantastiche e costosissime!”, non è stile. Lo stile riguarda il saper indossare queste scarpe con un vestito che non costa niente, acquistato in un negozio di terza categoria,e di far funzionare il look.

2. Quali sono gli oggetti che porti sempre con te e senza i quali non esci?
A dire il vero non molti. Di solito ho un sacco di cose inutili, ma i capisaldi sono il cellulare, ovviamente, mentine, portafogli, ipod, eyeliner, balsamo per le labbra, un po’ di soldi, hair bands, etc. Roba davvero noiosa!

3. Quali sono i tuoi stilisti preferiti?
Sarà una lista lunghissima! Sono ossessionata da Rick Owens, Stefano Pilati , Nicolas Ghesquiere, Hannah McGibbon, Dries Van Noten, Marios Schwab, Christophe Decarnin, Phoebe Philo, Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood, l’ultimo Alexander McQueen ed ora Sarah Burton (sta portando magistralmente avanti la sua eredità), Giles Deacon, le sorelle Mulleavy…è infinita.

4. Le tue modelle preferite?
Karlie Kloss, Constance Jablonski, Jessica Stam, Isabeli Fontana, Liya Kebede, Daria Werbowy, Gemma Ward (quando faceva la modella), Coco Rocha, Natalia Vadianova, Lara Stone, Crystal Renn...anche questa è una lista lunga e varia.

5. Il tuo outfit perfetto per il giorno.
Una tshirt funky di qualche brand come Disco Ruined My Life, un blazer strutturato ed aderente con le maniche risvoltate, nero o di un colore brillante se mi sento particolarmente avventurosa (non potrei mai indossare un blazer senza risvoltargli le maniche…è una persecuzione!), skinny jeans o leggings dipende dalla lunghezza della tshirt, un cappello fedora e Senso ankle booties. Difficilmente indosso le ballerine. Forse perché sono bassa!

6. Il tuo outfit perfetto per la notte.
Sono una grande sostenitrice della combo gonna svolazzante + top basico, in opposizione al jeans o al vestitino scollato che la maggior parte delle ragazze sceglierebbe. Una mia scelta sarebbe una minigonna paillettata con un top color ardesia a mezza manica, un pò di collane e tacchi vergognosamente alti. Magari aggiungerei una giacca di pelle nera nei mesi più freddi. Poi, smoky eyes, con matita nera, che indosso sempre forse a causa del mio essere Indiana. Ho le labbra piene quindi non le trucco, a volte metto un po’ di gloss.

7. Quali saranno i trends del 2011?
Non sono molto brava a prevedere i trends. Sicuramente c’è il cammello che sta facendo impazzire tutte, e il broccato. Poi ci sono le cappe e le giacche portate a spalla senza infilare le maniche. E le pieghe.

8. Qual è la tua fonte di ispirazione?
I blog di streetstyle! Ne consulto 5 o 6 al giorno. E le mie style icon Edie Sedgwick, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Rachel Bilson, Kate Lanphear, Taylor Tomasi Hill, Alexa Chung, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lou Doillon, etc. Mi ispirano anche film come Single Man, The Virgin Suicides, Factory Girl, etc ed i libri, capendo come sono davvero i personaggi. I musicisti, le mie amiche. La mia ispirazione è ovunque, si deve solo saper guardare.

9. Come renderesti originale un vestitino nero basico?
Ho questa giacca da motociclista rosa acceso di un marca newyorkese chiamata Calista che sembra pacchiana a dirsi ma è fantastica indossata. La indosserei con un vestitino nero corto e aderente, con calze con qualche buco, e aggiungerei un paio di Sam Edelman appuntite.

10. Customizzi i tuoi vestiti? Se si, come?
Non molto. Non sono molto brava col DIY, al massimo aggiusto le cose per farmele andare meglio; il bello di vivere in India è che gli aggiusti sartoriali costano poco. A volte prendo vestiti molto lunghi e faccio rifare l’orlo per renderli delle tuniche. Ammiro persone come PS-I made this che costruiscono interi outfit con niente. E’ incredibile ma non sono capace.

11. Cosa c’è nella tua wishlist ora?
Stivali Acne, patcwork jeans Cheap Monday, un paio di pantaloni a vita alta perché non ne ho, una bella sacca di pelle, un paio di scarpe di Zara, una cappa color cammello ed un vestito di pelle con le cuciture in rilievo.

12. Con i tacchi o senza?
Tacchi, sempre. Difficilmente non li indosso. Andare al supermercato con degli ankle boots in suede può attirare un pò troppo l’attenzione, ma è ok se ti fa stare bene.

13. C’è qualcosa nel tuo armadio che ti imbarazza?
C’erano tantissime cose ma poi ho avuto un attacco di panico e ho gettato tutto ciò di cui non avevo bisogno. Ho un armadio minuscolo ed è difficile farci entrare tutto, comunque è stata una liberazione, anche se ho pianto dopo aver buttato le felpe delle medie!

14. La cosa che ami di più nel tuo armadio.
Un blazer aderente di Tt Collection che indosso sempre, le Lita di Jeffrey Campbell, le scarpe altissime e colorate di Report Signature, le Lorissa di Sam Edelman, e le zeppe verde acido di United Nude. E una giacca paillettata di Iro che ho comprato da poco e ancora non ho indossato. 

15. Come mai hai deciso di aprire un tuo fashion blog?
Perché non avevo amiche con cui parlare di Gucci o delle sorelle Mulleavy, o di Coco Chanel. Così, siccome spendo almeno 2 ore al giorno sui fashion blogs, ho deciso che era giunto il momento di aprirne uno mio. All’inizio era solo un blog basico sulla moda, con i miei commenti positivi e negativi, poi ho iniziato a postare i miei outfit e così tutto è cominciato.

1. “Style”: what does it mean to you?
Style is not being aware of what you're wearing. Of being effortless. If you're wearing $300 ankle boots and you're walking around looking like "look at me, I'm wearing fabulous, expensive shoes!", that's not style. Style is being able to throw on those shoes with a dress that cost peanuts from a thrift store and being able to pull if off.

2. Which are the items thare are always in your bag and which you don’t go out without?
Mmm not a lot. I usually have a bunch of crap just lying around but some staples would be my phone, obviously, mint, my wallet, mint, iPod, eyeliner, lip balm, random receipts, hair bands, etc. Just really boring, expected stuff.

3. Your favorite designers.
This is going to be a really long list! I am obsessed with Rick Owens, Stefano Pilati, Nicholas Ghesquiere, Hannah McGibbon, Dries Van Noten, Marios Schwab, Christophe Decarnin, Phoebe Philo, Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood, the late Alexander McQueen and now Sarah Burton (she's carrying on his legacy beautifully), Giles Deacon, the Mulleavy sisters...and it's endless. 

4. Your favorite models.
Karlie Kloss, Constance Jablonski, Jessica Stam, Isabeli Fontana, Liya Kebede, Daria Werbowy, Gemma Ward (when she used to model), Coco Rocha, Natalia Vadianova, Lara Stone, Crystal Renn...it's also a pretty long and varied list. 

5. The perfect outfit for the morning.
A funky shirt by some label like Disco Ruined My Life, a structured, fitted blazer with the sleeves rolled up in black or a jewel color if I'm feeling more adventurous (I can never wear a blazer of a jacket with the sleeves down...it's a pet peeve!), skinny jeans or leggings depending on the length of the shirt, a fedora and black Senso ankle booties. I hardly ever wear flats. Maybe because I'm only 5 feet 4!

6. The perfect outfit for the night.
I'm a big advocate of the fancy skirt+basic top combo as opposed to the banal jeans+halter or tube dress situation that most girls pick. One of my picks would be a sequined mini skirt with a slate gray short sleeved top, a few layered necklaces and ridiculously high heels. Maybe throw on a black leather jacket in the cooler months. Also, major smoky eyes. I always have some form of black liner on. I guess it's my Indian- ness showing through. I have full lips so I don't really do much with them, maybe some clear gloss.

7. Which will be the 2011 trends?
I'm so aimless about trends. There's obviously camel that everybody's going a little bit nuts obsessing about and brocade. Then there's capes by the dozen and jackets slung on the shoulders instead of putting your hands in the sleeves. Also, pleats.

8. Where do you take your inspiration from?
Street style blogs! I read 5-6 daily. And my style icons include Edie Sedgwick, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Rachel Bilson, Kate Lanpear, Taylor Tomassi Hill, Alexa Chung, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lou Doillon, etc. I'm inspired by movies like A Single Man, The Virgin Suicides, Factory Girl, etc. and books, if you really, really absorb what the characters are all about. Musicians, my friends. Inspiration is everywhere. You just have to look hard enough.

9. If you had a LBD, how would you make it stylish and original?
I have this bright pink motorcycle jacket from New York based indie label Calista which sounds tacky on paper but is badass when worn. I'd wear it with a fitted, short LBD, sheer tights with maybe a rip or two and add some spiky Sam Edelmans for good measure. 

10. Do you customize your clothes?
Hardly. This is sad but I'm quite pathetic at anything DIY. The most I do is get things tailored to fit more perfectly; perks of living in India include really cheap tailoring charges. Sometimes I'll pick up a long maxi and get it hemmed to become a tunic dress. I admire people (like PS-I Made This) who construct entire outfits out of crap. It's incredible but I suck at it.

11. Your wishlist now.
Acne boots, Cheap Monday patchwork jeans, a pair of high waisted paperbag trousers because I have none (shame, I know), a buttery leather satchel bag, bright pink Zara brogues, a camel cape and a leather dress with stitch detailing.

12. Heels or flats?
Heels, all the time, everytime. I barely wear flats ever. Walking to the grocery store in suede ankle boots may attract some stares but at least it'll keep you feeling good. 

13. Is there something in your closet you are embarrassed about?
I had tons until recently I had a panic attack and cleaned out everything I don't need. My closet is minuscule and it's a battle fitting everything in, anyway so it was actually good riddance, even though I cried a little about all the forgotten sweatshirts from grade school I had chucked out unceremoniously. 

14. The most loved item in your closet.
A fitted blazer by Tt Collection I wear all the time, my Jeffrey Campbell Litas, 6 inch colorful Report Signature shoes, 6 inch spiked Sam Edelman Lorissas, United Nude block heeled neon green shoes. And a sequined jacket from Iro I recently bought but am yet to wear out. 

15. Why did you start writing on your own fashion blog?
I started writing my blog because I came to the saddening realization that the bulk of my friends didn't particularly give a rat's flying ass if I wanted to discuss the Gucci stakes battle or the Mulleavy sisters or even Coco Chanel's feminist advent. So I decided that considering I already spent a good 2 hours a day on blogs, nothing was really stopping from jumping onto the bandwagon and starting my own. So I did and initially it was just a basic fashion blog with ongoing commentary of my loves and dislikes and then eventually, I started posting outfit photos and it kind of just took off from there.
