Father and Son

Football legacy

Father and Son Football legacy

Football sometimes evokes childhood memories. When I was a child, on Sunday, I used to go on the street of my neighborhood and use the shutters of the shops as a goal post. On those occasions, the rival was my father. You played with the sole purpose of making him a goal, to prove yourself that you could be even better than your father.

Playing football with dad is probably one of the oldest traditions of our modern society, based on the leisure and the enhancement of the individual. I think I have scored my first goal to my father, who was a goalkeeper, and I think he was also the first adult I've ever seen playing live.

Are the fathers and sons that have transmitted the passion for football to each other part of a purely imaginary family? Not at all. The famous "sons of" are nothing but the heirs of these champions, trying (with more or less success) to follow in the footsteps of their parents.

We chose 5 cases among the many we know nowadays, which tell five different stories. A glimmer into the complicated world of parent-child relationships applied to football.

Johan and Jordi, Cruyff

Being the son of a man who changed the history of the sport (but the concept can be extended a bit 'in all) in which you yourself are venturing, should not be the easiest thing in the world. Yet he can defend well Jordi, son of the legendary Johan. Almost 20 years career between professionals, thanks to the beginnings  in the Barcelona of daddy Johan. He won a premier league with Man Udt, and player a European Championship in 1996.

Cesare and Paolo, Maldini

When you say the words "Father, son, football" in Italy the response of your partner will be, in 90% of cases, Maldini. The most regal dynasties of football was born in Milan on June 26, 1968, but will become official sixteen years later, when Paul made his debut with the Milan shirt that never stop.  The high point (and bitter) is likely to remain the  French World Cup of 1998, when the Maldini family  (with Caesar on the bench and Paul with the captain's armband in the arm) heads one of the strongest Italian national ever to the quarter- final, where the dream of crashes over the crossbar by Gigi Di Biagio. It could have been magical.

Zinedine and Enzo and Luca, Zidane

As manager, Zinedine Zidane, has been in a situation to prove to launch the career of his son Enzo, which in Spain known as Enzo Fernandez (the surname of the mother), he is 20 years old and last year debut with Castilla, the team B Real Madrid. Wearing the number 10, and this year he has the captain's armband on his arm, Enzo has caused some raised eyebrows because of performance is not always brilliant and hisses of nepotism for dad Zinedine. Those who do not seem to need to get parental influence at the highest levels is the other son, Luca. Goalkeeper of the France Under-17 European protagonist of the last category, He also plays for Real, and seems to resemble his father. If not for the role, at least for character.

Arnor and Eidur, Gudjohnsen

That Eidur Gudjohnsen and father Arnor was perhaps the most beautiful football history in the world of relationships fathers/children. It was on April 24 of 1996, and the Icelandic National played, and won, against Estonia. Arnor is one of the strongest players in the history of the land of the ice, he is 34 years old, he had a good career at club level, spending especially in Belgium. At one point in the race, however, it is replaced by another striker .He was higher of him, and that, with hindsight, he might in turn become the strongest (and especially winning) Icelandic footballer of all time. That was seventeen Eidur Gudjohnsen, and then, on the line that embrace the foul side is  the highest exaltation of parental relationship applied to the ball.

Bruno and Daniele, Conti

Daniele Conti sorty is a circular story. From Rome, where there dad Bruno became great, one of the greatest ever, in his role. Daniele debutted with the Rome team, scored even a goal, and then he was given on loan to Cagliari. It then becomes the captain and specializes in goal on free kick. Special features: the team that Daniel scored most is Rome. So much so that in the capital are starting to talk about Curse Conti. Daniel is in fact full of pride, and eager for revenge towards those who did not believe in him, exiling him in Sardinia. Stories of pride, revenge, things often happen between fathers and sons.
