What does the new partnership between Nike and Barça include? The most expensive in football history

Barcelona has officially signed a multi-year partnership with Nike, a brand that has sponsored the club for 26 years and, due to rumors circulating in previous months, was thought to be potentially replaced by another brand. The Blaugrana released an official statement on their website: "FC Barcelona and Nike, two leading brands in the sports industry, are pleased to announce a new chapter with a multi-year partnership agreement, effective from this season, introducing a new collaborative strategic partnership model between the two organizations. This new collaboration consolidates Nike as the Club's Main Partner and Official Technical Partner for all professional and amateur teams, presenting a unique model that strengthens the association between the brands and drives the global growth of the retail and licensing business. Nike will play a key strategic role in the Club's Retail Operations and, together with Barça Licensing & Merchandising, will join forces in the development of specific plans related to product creation, supply chain, and global distribution.".

In March 2024, rumors became more concrete that the Blaugrana were not satisfied with the annual amount the brand was paying to the club (100 million euros fixed plus 55 million in bonuses). As a result, they were considering a change of sponsor. For months, there was speculation about seeing the New Balance or PUMA logo on the club's kits, and for a time, there was also talk of Hummel entering the race to become Barcelona's next official kit supplier. The latest rumor that circulated involved the possibility of using in-house produced kits, but this also remained just a suggestion. In the end, Nike prevailed, managing to retain one of the most important clubs it still sponsors today. The partnership with the Blaugrana is significant, as the team is working on developing a new generation of talents (Pau Cubarsí, Marc Casadó, Lamine Yamal) and could establish itself as one of the most dominant clubs in the next decade.

The duration and value of the new contract between Barcelona and Nike have yet to be officially revealed, but according to the Spanish site Mundo Deportivo, a 14-year deal worth £127 million per year, totaling £1.7 billion, has been agreed upon. It would be the most expensive investment by a football club in terms of kit partnerships.
