PSG re-releases the "Louis Vuitton" jersey from the 2006/07 season
But without the Nike logo
October 10th, 2024
The Paris Saint-Germain has re-released one of the most iconic jerseys in its history: the 2006/07 Away kit, commonly nicknamed "Louis Vuitton". However, the club’s technical sponsor, Nike, was never associated with the French luxury maison in the creation of this jersey. The name simply derives from the pattern, which vaguely resembles Louis Vuitton's famous monogram. The jersey design features three alternating symbols, emblematic of Paris, including the Eiffel Tower and the acronym PSG, which are nearly identical in the fan version just released by the club. The 2006/07 season was rather disappointing for PSG, a team much different from today’s, finishing 15th in Ligue 1 and not achieving significant results in other competitions. Among the standout players of that squad were captain and number 9, Pauleta, and Vikash Dhorasoo, who left the club mid-season to join Livorno.
What immediately stands out about the new jersey is the absence of the Nike Swoosh. PSG has opted for a version without the technical sponsor's logo, a surprising move, especially for Nike, since the club is using a design from its archives but without the logo. In June 2024, Nike released a reissue of Brazil's 1998 World Cup Home jersey with the Swoosh intact; thus, the club's decision is rather enigmatic. It could be a strategy to lower the retail price, set at €55, with an additional €10 for nostalgic fans who want the jersey with Pauleta's name.
