Barcelona has banned tunnel fits
Jules Koundé won't be happy
September 3rd, 2024
Barcelona's season under Hansi Flick has started with magnificent results on the pitch, but also with new rules introduced by the new German manager. Flick has indeed imposed a dress code that requires the Blaugrana players to wear a sports outfit upon arrival at the stadium on matchday, whether at Camp Nou or away. Therefore, the tradition of the so-called tunnel fits, which came into football directly from the NBA and was promoted by Barcelona, where players would parade in front of photographers upon arrival at the stadium, will no longer be seen. Thus ends a period that lasted just under two seasons.
How tunnel fits were born and how they evolved
Barcelona introduced tunnel fits when players were exempted from wearing the Herno garments, the official formal wear of the Catalans during the 2022/23 season. The photos published on the club's various social media platforms quickly went viral, just as is happening now with the Belgian and French national team camps, where players are increasingly showing a refined interest in fashion. Barcelona's choice has testified from the start to the strong connection that has developed in recent years between football and fashion, two worlds that continue to influence each other. Nevertheless, the initiative of Barcelona players to parade before matches has never influenced other clubs, which have maintained the classic style by wearing the formal wear provided.
Barcelona's new representative uniform
On the last matchday of La Liga, there was a chance to observe what will be the representative uniform that Lewandowski and his teammates will wear, at least before a drastic drop in temperatures, as it consists of a look composed of shorts and a t-shirt. The shorts are from the famous sportswear line Nike Tech, while the t-shirt is a simple cotton garment featuring the club's crest and a small Swoosh. Jules Koundé, a player who has made a significant effort to express his style, likely did not take well to the new rule introduced by Flick, which is why he promptly took advantage of the opportunity at Clairefontaine to challenge it. But now is the time for the players' creativity to shine. For example, Lamine Yamal and Raphinha added character to their outfits by wearing a pair of Oakley "Romeo" sunglasses, which, as shown by Endrick - and before him by athletes like Michael Jordan - still seem to be the most appreciated eyewear among athletes.
