Manchester City unveils the Away kit for the 2024/25 season Inspired by the 1999 Play-Off against Gillingham

Manchester City unveils the new Away jersey for the 2024/25 season, inspired by one of the most iconic seasons in its sporting history, that of 1998/99. Indeed, PUMA has created a jersey very similar to that of 25 years ago for Pep Guardiola's club. On May 30, 1999, Manchester City won the Second Division Play-Off against Gillingham thanks to a goal from Paul Dickov, which brought the match to 2-2, allowing the team the chance to compete for—and ultimately secure—promotion to the Championship in extra time. To celebrate this iconic match that remains etched in the hearts of the Citizens, PUMA has revived the nearly original design with vertical navy blue stripes alternating with neon yellow, a color also present on the classic collar and sleeve cuffs.

Paul Dickov, Manchester City ambassador, stated on this occasion: “It’s fantastic to see the club release this year’s away kit. The victory in the 1999 playoff final remains a special moment for me and for City fans around the world, and I know that the jersey from that day is remembered by those who were there and beyond. It’s a wonderful gesture from the club and PUMA to commemorate the anniversary by effectively replicating that design on this year’s away jersey.” Words also came from Marco Mueller, Senior Head of Product Line Management Teamsport Apparel at PUMA, who added: “This jersey symbolizes a turning point in the history of Manchester City but also the fighting spirit of its fans. Our goal was to create a jersey that honors the past while using the latest performance technologies to meet the needs of today’s athletes and supporters. We are proud to revive a design that holds such significant meaning and to do so with a sustainable approach.”

The Away jersey is available on the Manchester City website and on PUMA's website.
