The best liveries for the 75th anniversary of MotoGP Vintage design and retro fairings

On the occasion of the last British Grand Prix held at Silverstone, MotoGP celebrated its 75th anniversary. This special occasion was celebrated in a unique way, as all teams redesigned their liveries inspired by the past. Some teams opted for a tribute to more recent times. This is the case for Ducati: the Borgo Panigale factory stuck to its classic concept and drew inspiration from the historic Desmosedici, the model with which Ducati made its MotoGP debut in 2003. This means that the iconic red fairing was modified by the addition of two large white panels, where the Marlboro logo originally appeared. A similar story applies to the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team, which is the Ducati factory team owned by Valentino Rossi. The two riders, Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio, used a blue bike with yellow accents inspired by the helmet worn by Valentino Rossi in 2018.

Classic but not mundane was the choice of Aprilia: the Noale factory decided to bring back the "Perla Nera", the livery made famous by the RSV 250. Specifically, this is the bike with which Max Biaggi won three consecutive world titles from 1994 to 1996 in the 250 class, an iconic livery with which Aprilia wrote important chapters in the history of motorcycling. Just like the original model, the number on the front fairing was set within a small shape with silver edges, while the sponsors were placed on the lower part of the fairing to highlight the black color more prominently. However, the bikes that truly stole the show were those inspired by models from the 1970s and 1980s. This is the case for Yamaha: the Japanese company abandoned the blue livery sponsored by Monster to showcase the original white and red livery from 1964, with black numbers set against a yellow background.

Black numbers on a yellow background were also seen on the Repsol Honda Team and their bike inspired by the one used by Freddie Spencer in 1983. A retro choice was also made by LCR Honda, which took to the track with two different models. The most interesting was certainly the one used by Johann Zarco, as the French rider's bike was redesigned so that the classic Castrol livery became a tribute to the green-white-red six-cylinder bike used by Mike Hailwood in 1966. Finally, a special mention goes to Gresini Racing. As in the last two editions of the Misano Grand Prix, the Italian team wanted to pay homage to the team's founder, Fausto Gresini, by showcasing the Garelli livery, which features a white model with black details and a thin tricolor horizontal band, with which Fausto Gresini won the 125 titles in 1985 and 1987.
