Orlando Pirates and adidas present the Home and Away jerseys for the 2024/25 season, paying tribute to James Mpanza, "The Father of Soweto". The Orlando Pirates exemplify this by unveiling a new set of jerseys that honor one of their founding figures: a unique way to celebrate the club's rich history. James Sofasonke Mpanza, born in 1889, was instrumental in the founding of the Orlando Pirates, as far back as 1937. His visionary ambitions and strong leadership laid the groundwork for what has become, over the years, one of the most beloved football clubs in South Africa. Mpanza, more commonly known as "The Father of Soweto," recognized the cultural potential of sports, particularly football, in uniting communities, promoting youth development, and boosting hope in the face of life's challenges. For this reason, James Mpanza has become an integral part of South African—and beyond—collective memory, playing a crucial role in the club's foundation.

The Home version comes in the classic black color and abandons the all-over skull graphic that characterized last season's version. The Away version, on the other hand, features a turquoise color that has been missing since the 2021/22 season. «adidas has always supported the belief that sport can change lives,» said Kate Woods, Senior Brand Director at the company, adding: «On horseback, Mpanza rallied the community and defended their rights, cementing his iconic image based on dedication and courage.» Thandi Merafe, Media & PR Manager of the Orlando Pirates, also expressed admiration for Mpanza, stating: «James Mpanza's legacy is woven into the very fabric of our club. His dedication to improving the lives of those around him and his pioneering spirit in founding the Orlando Pirates are a testament to his character and vision. We are honored to celebrate his life and continue his mission of promoting unity and pursuing excellence.»
