Sunderland returns to hummel with the new Home jersey

A thirty-year break. This is how the time since the last time Sunderland AFC wore the hummel logo and the distinctive Chevrons that characterize the design of the Danish brand has been defined. Now, by renewing a historic alliance that began in 1988, hummel and Sunderland AFC have today presented the new Home kit for the 2024-25 season, which celebrates the iconic red and white stripes that are synonymous with the tradition of the Black Cats club. This year's design honors the deep shipbuilding roots of the city, with all-over stripes inspired by the historic emblem of the club and archival images of shipyards and ships adorning the inside of the back collar. The phrase "From the banks of the River Wear" is elegantly engraved inside the collar and embodies the spirit of the port city overlooking the North Sea. The coordinates of the Stadium of Light, subtly placed on the back of the collar, symbolically connect the jersey to the modern era of Sunderland, while also creating a link to its illustrious past.

Throughout history, Sunderland and hummel have shared numerous key milestones, from their rise to the First Division in the late 1980s to the unforgettable FA Cup victory in 1992. Between 1988 and 1994, hummel designed kits that captured the essence of the era and became icons of the club's history. "Returning to Sunderland after three decades truly feels like coming home, and we’re excited to launch the new 2024-25 home kit in partnership with the club. This kit not only pays tribute to our shared past but also underlines our commitment to the passionate Sunderland community, which is the true lifeblood of the club. In the late '80s and early '90s, our chevrons symbolized the club's ambitions and successes. Now, we're leveraging that rich legacy of heritage and innovation to create the next iconic Sunderland kit, one that will hopefully inspire generations to come," said Morten Lund, Hummel's marketing director.

The home kit will be available from tomorrow 28 June on the Hummel and Sunderland AFC website.
