Atletico Mineiro's stadium is a new Fornite map

In 2023, Atletico Mineiro inaugurated the Arena MRV, the new stadium in Belo Horizonte, one of the most technologically advanced in all of South America. However, the historic Brazilian club was not satisfied with its almost 50,000 seats, it wanted to open the stadium's doors to a wider audience 'of supporters and fans of the sport that we do not reach today', as stated by Débora Saldanha, the club's Head of Innovation. Atletico Mineiro, in order to consolidate its role as a leader also in the world of technology applied to sport, has created the 'Galoverso' gameplay platform, which begins with the collaboration with Fortnite, a highly successful video game in which the MRV Arena will become a real map playable by users.

The new fan experience was created together with augmented reality development company IMxr and aims to revolutionise the world of sports entertainment through immersive experiences. In a statement on its website, Atletico Mineiro explains how the Fortnite experience has not only a playful purpose, but also to introduce the club's environment and history, creating a more direct contact with the players. The issue of the younger generation's move away from football towards digital experiences has been a theme of several statements in recent years, Galoverso tries to bridge this gap, in the same week that Fortnite itself was included by the International Olympic Committee among the Olympic eSports.
