Il nuovo logo dei Mondiali di calcio 2026
Una svolta nello stile, a tre anni dal torneo che sarà ospitato in Canada, Messico e USA
May 19th, 2023
Just over three years to go until the start of the 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup, which for the second time in history will be hosted by more than one country. Canada, Mexico, and the USA will host the event, which also changes in the rules, particularly in the number of nations, which will increase from 32 to 48. The coming years will be qualifying years but in the meantime, FIFA has unveiled the new graphic identity of the event and the official logo of the tournament, along with the WE ARE 26 campaign.
The history of World Cup logos is as long as the competition itself. From the first illustrated ones to the more geometric of the 1980s and 1990s, to those of the last twenty years, in which a common element has always been the attempt to rework the shape of the trophy following the style and artistic influences of the host country. In this sense, the logo for 2026 marks a turning point in the graphic history of the World Cup. The new identity is in fact completely minimalist, with only the photo of the trophy superimposed on the numbers 2 and 6 placed one above the other. A minimalist approach that develops vertically, to which is added a creativity that focuses on geometric shapes and colours, not far off in style from the rebranding for the Olympics presented less than a year ago by the International Olympic Committee. Not having a single host nation may have prompted FIFA to choose a different path, one that marks a new chapter for a competition that has often marked moments of style and creativity as well as great sporting success.
