The iconic adidas goalkeeper jerseys from the 1990s are back
Design masterpieces

The true element of style in sport is undoubtedly the jersey. This is well known by the brands, which every year invest a lot of resources to propose innovative solutions to clubs, kits with unique designs, and by the clubs themselves, which turn a game jersey into a real tool through which they can monetise with merchandising. But for several years now, brands have also decided to go down other paths, dusting off those masterpieces that have remained in the minds of every fan, masterful jerseys that wrote the history of football design and that after the phenomenal 1990s remained locked in the archives.
It is precisely these archives that have been skilfully reopened in recent years by adidas, which has managed to bring back models, designs and patterns that fans have long acclaimed, but which have fundamentally left their mark on the aesthetics of the world's most popular sport, inspiring designers in every field over the years. But not only retro collections made ad hoc, even in the kits of the German brand this year there are two big trends that will characterise the shirts in the 2022/23 season and one of these is undoubtedly the reopening of the archive and the collars of Manchester United and Arsenal are proof of this.
Riding on this feeling of nostalgia, adidas has put its most iconic goalkeeper jerseys back into production, giving fans the opportunity to buy jerseys that are now impossible to find. The jerseys in question are those of Argentina, Germany, Spain and Mexico, although the version of the latter looks more like the one produced by Umbro for the 1994 World Cup in the USA. A real throwback that will hopefully convince adidas to make goalkeeper jerseys again and not relegate basic designs as in recent years. The golden age of goalkeeper jerseys is in fact long over, a period of time that we can fit between the early 90s and the early 2000s and that did not only concern adidas but also all the other brands, Umbro above all.
