The ten least liked jerseys of the 2022/23 season

Not all shirts go down in history the right way

The ten least liked jerseys of the 2022/23 season Not all shirts go down in history the right way

Making the jersey that a team is to wear for the entire year is not an easy task; it is the synthesis of club history, brand aesthetics and seasonal trends, and no matter how much effort and research is put into the final product, sometimes the results are far off target provoking heartfelt reactions from fans. Even this year, some of the jerseys were not well received by the various fans, who in the worst cases decided to boycott the release and collapse sales as happened to Atletico Madrid. But Simeone's team is not the only one to have failed expectations this season, here are the ten most disappointing jerseys made this year according to fans.

Go Ahead Eagles Away - Stanno

The Dutch team left it up to the fans to choose their second kit and then suffer the effect of their decisions. In fact, the purple and black checkered jersey was not as popular as expected after using such a system to decide which one to wear.

Freiburg Home - Nike

The German club did not convince its fans with this first jersey designed by Nike using the template for B teams, with the wide red and thin white stripes. This year's is also the first Freiburg jersey not to have the historic Schwarzwaldmilch sponsor on the chest, replaced by Cazoo, a choice that did not convince the most traditionalist fans.

Mallorca Home - Nike

If this year's Freiburg jersey did not please, a very similar jersey to that of the Germans last season also suffered similar fate. In fact, the one Nike made for Mallorca is almost a recycle, creating an inevitable rejection by the Spanish fans.

Montpellier Home - Nike

Another Nike jersey that was not liked is the one for Montpellier, a clear case of how an ugly sponsor logo can make any attempt to make a game kit eye-catching futile. And on a jersey with as little personality as that of the French team, with a scholastic use of the social colors, the double sponsor is the coup de grace.

Atalanta Home - Joma

Joma and Atalanta have been collaborating for years now, making first jerseys that are always very classic, sometimes bordering on the predictable. Such as this season's, for example, with the usual black and blue vertical stripes and V-neck, is certainly stylish but without the flare that fans perhaps expected.

Porto Away - New Balance

The away jersey made by New Balance for Porto in two shades of yellow, with two bundles of sunbeams starting from the top left and bottom right corners, seemed too bold to the Lusitanian fans. Especially unconvinced were the sleeves in sky gray, very out of place compared to the chosen color scheme.

Monza Home - Lotto

This season coincided with two big appointments, Lotto's in Serie A and Monza's first time in the top flight. The jersey made, however, does not describe the uniqueness of this moment, remaining very similar to last year's except for the change of sponsor on the chest. Perhaps a little more daring was needed to make a historic jersey special.

Newcastle United Third - Castore

The idea of making a jersey in the colors of the Arab national team did not particularly convince Newcastle fans, who rebelled against the choice of Castore. A tribute perhaps to the new presidency of the English team, which is owned by a fund chaired by the Saudi crown, but one that could be expected would not please everyone.

Tottenham Hotspur Away - Nike

Nike
's much-discussed template this year has yielded some very fitting jerseys as much as genuine disappointments, such as this second jersey designed for Tottenham. As soon as it was released, it was immediately compared to a diving suit or a cycling suit, not exactly what one would want from a football jersey.

Atletico Madrid Home - Nike

The most obvious flop of the season, however, belongs to Atletico Madrid, which let Nike twist the vertical stripes on the jersey. And the sales figures were merciless, down 40 percent from previous seasons, with fans not liking this year's design. A failure so stark that it prompted the brand to announce that they would be the ones to choose the jersey last year.
