Palermo's new jerseys are a blast from the past
Signed Kappa, the third was drawn by TvBoy, one of the world's best-known street artists
August 1st, 2022
A few days ago, Palermo, recently acquired by the City Football Group, presented the new jerseys for the 2022-2023 season, created in collaboration with the agency Gomez & Mortisia, designer Luca D'Agostino, Kappa R&D centre and the special participation of TvBoy, one of the world's most famous street artists. The main novelty is in the first jersey, which, after last year's two-tone design, for 22/23 will return in pink with black highlights. But the most iconic element is undoubtedly the wide collar held together by laces, a real throwback to the past, a model mainly used at the end of the 1950s, when the Favorita warmed up with Ghito Vernazza's goals. The historical component of the collar meets by contrast the modern one of the jersey's texture: a 'glitch' effect that breaks up and mixes different shades of pink, thus creating a bridge between past and future.
The second instead is a tribute to the presidency of Renzo Barbera and in particular to Palermo 1973-74, which from Serie B with a memorable ride won the final of the Coppa Italia. In that season Palermo wore the so-called braces jersey: pink with two black braces on the left side and two on the right side. This time, the same model but in inverted colours: black with two pink braces on the right and two black ones on the left.
The third jersey, on the other hand, is an absolute novelty and was created by the Italian artist TvBoy, who was inspired by the patron saint of Palermo, Santa Rosalia. A kit where skulls and roses are mixed together, emblems of the religious figure, set in a context of ornamental Baroque-style motifs, a true cult in the Sicilian capital, and classic iconographic elements of the figure of the Saint. A uniform totally inspired by the soul of Palermo to further increase the team's already strong bond with the territory. Moreover, for the occasion, the artist has also created a mural with his famous ROSALIA in the tunnel of the Renzo Barbera stadium.
