The new Balenciaga scarf that looks like a soccer jersey
Demna Gvasalia continues to pay homage to his favorite sport, this time with a polyester scarf
January 18th, 2022
Demna Gvasalia has never hidden his love for the game of soccer, whose aesthetic has always accompanied the collections of the creative director of Balenciaga. Gvasalia had already created in recent years Zen, a sneaker between a Bikkembergs Soccer 106 of the early 2000s and an adidas Prajna of the late '90s, and 4 kits inspired by the shirts worn during the early zero years by Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid. After all, the Georgian designer himself had stated that "footballers and priests were what I grew up with" and so it's not surprising to see the models in his latest Clones collection for Spring 2022 wearing a garment somewhere between an soccer jersey and a cleric's stole.
The Soccer Hood Scarf is made in two colorways, red and indigo, with white detailing. Made from the same polyester that game kits are normally made from, it is completed with a satin trim and thin vertical stripes to create pattern movement. On the back are various Balenciaga logos directly inspired by those of the sports clubs, from "Balenciaga, Paris, France" embroidered as a crest on the right side, to a central one in the style of the sponsors on the chest of soccer jerseys to a minimalist one with the letter B. Two more Balenciaga logos complete the look, one on the right sleeve and one on the left side.
The Soccer Hood Scarf is available in Balenciaga boutiques and on the fashion house's official website for $650, here.
