The time the fans gave the shirts to the Catania players An iconic moment in the history of the rossoazzurri, now 75 years old

On the day in which the Etna club celebrates its 75th birthday, we decided to relive one of the most particular and curious moments in the history of Calcio Catania. It is the 13th of December 1998, Catania is expected to play against Messina at the Stadio Celeste, in a very hot derby in the now suppressed C2. The Catania players arrive at the stadium with their away jerseys, as it should be, totally white with little red and blue inserts. The problem is that those away jerseys are white, just like those of Messina, who had strangely decided to use the white shirt instead of the classic yellow and red. For obvious reasons, given that the game is played at the home of Messina, it would be up to the home team to change the jersey, but they don't want to know. It's a unique situation, the match is seriously at risk, playing with 22 white shirts is almost impossible. When the situation seemed compromised, the Catania fans, who had come to Messina en masse, decided to intervene, calling the players together under the curve and giving them red and blue shirts. So the players quickly changed their shirts from at least seven different seasons and started the match.

The match didn't give many emotions and ended 0-0, with Catania as protagonist both on the field and in the stands. One of the most iconic moments of the Etna club and one that will surely remain in the minds of every fan. At the end of the match the sweat-soaked jerseys will return to their respective owners, who are surely still in possession of a jersey that has become a unique heirloom. To date, the Catania is not in good waters, the company is still looking for investors to maintain the original number (11700) given by the League now 75 ago, waiting to see again in a category up to its fans and the city.
