The EURO 2020 celebratory patch
It will make official debut with the Azzurri in September against Bulgaria
July 13th, 2021
If 2020 was the year with fewer celebratory badges than ever, the Italian national team is ready to show the world the title won 53 years after the first European title, also on the pitch. The first look of the patch dedicated to the European Champions comes from footyheadlines.com, which shows the blue PUMA Renaissance jersey with the classic logos of the German cat and the national team with the addition of the shield with the words "European Champions 2020". The badge's debut on the pitch will be in the first qualifying match for the Qatar 2022 World Cup against Bulgaria in early September.
The Euro 2020 winners' badge has the same shape as the one worn by former champion Portugal, but the design inside the patch has changed. All this is completed with the stylization of the cup that is given to the European Champions. It is already possible to buy the two versions that the Azzurri used first in Rome, then in Monaco and finally at Wembley with the new patch on the FIGC online store.
The history of the patches that are created ad hoc for those who reach the top of Europe is not so long, having been inserted for the first time at the beginning of the new millennium. The colors have remained unchanged, with the only exception of the 2008 patch which follows a different shade of blue, while the cup has been stylized in almost always different ways (from close up to full trophy).
