Umbro x Aries: when Gabber culture meets football
A 10-pieces limited edition collection
June 24th, 2021
Umbro has just unveiled its new collection made in collaboration with Aries, the brando founded by Sofia Prantera in 2010. Drawing inspiration from the gabber-rave-football culture, the two brands have released a ten-piece collection that includes a selection of 90s-inspired football shirts, taking us back in time, in red, pink and blue. Completing the collection are tie-dye training sets, available in a variety of colours.
"Playing football at amateur level was off limits during isolation, so we started to play football with our dogs. While searching for creative with Lea we found some amazing footage of well-known footballers like Messi training with their dogs. This combined with the beautiful work of Dutch artist Rineke Dijkstra became the inspiration for the project."
The collection was shot by photographer Lea Colombo who also shot the campaign video. Umbro's new collection is a real dive into the past, the football shirts celebrate that 90s aesthetic that we remember with much nostalgia, when the British brand enchanted us with iconic designs that have gone down in history. Football and fashion still intersect, consolidating this association that has come to its definitive consecration in 2018 with the Kylian Mbappé and Nike collection created by Virgil Abloh.
