Why could Chile play Copa América without the Nike logo?
An ongoing legal problem and an imperfect relationship with the Swoosh
June 18th, 2021
The situation in Copa América is not calm. In addition to the covid cases that continue to grow among staff and players, another grain comes directly from the ANFP (Asociación Nacional de Fútbol Profesional). The issue concerns the Chilean national team of Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez and a dispute that has come to court against Nike Chile. According to reports from Redgol, the relationship between the federation and the brand is at an all-time low due to the non-payment of the 2019-2020 annual fee required by the contract signed in 2015. The Chilean federation has sued Nike's Chile division for 4,200,000 pesos, but Nike Global was immediately brought up on the issue.

While awaiting a final decision of the court, Chile will be engaged at 11.00 PM (Italian time) in the match against Bolivia and the national team has already threatened to play with the Swoosh covered until the legal verdict. As mantosdofutbol.com reminds us, there are already precedents: the dispute between the national team and their respective supplier is repeated after 7 years, when at the end of the World Cup played in Brazil the Chilean national team chooses to break with PUMA for a very similar reason. Nike will arrive in September 2014, which apparently had no better luck than its German rivals.
