A week after the announcement of his new album "The Off-Season", J. Cole is still talking about himself but not for his artistic career but for the sport one. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Jermaine Lamarr Cole - the rapper's full name - is a new player for the Rwanda Patriots BBC, a Basketball Africa League (BAL) team.
The transition from musician to professional player is news that someone, especially those who have coached him during the last few years, has been predicting for some time. At 36, J. Cole flies to Africa and will play three to six games. The official signature has not yet arrived, considering the mandatory quarantine period to be respected, but Thursday could be the right day for the agreement. Signing that, among other things, would allow J. Cole to make his debut on Sunday against the Nigeria River Hoopers.
Although he has never really been a professional athlete so far, the North Carolina rapper is one of the main faces of PUMA Hoops, the "basketball" division of the German brand that has created a signature shoe for him (the RS-Dramer). J. Cole's love for basketball, who in addition to being an excellent rapper is also an good shooter and ball handler, is a constant in Jermaine's life, always divided between verses and baskets. His exploits at the Life Time SKY in Manhattan - the NYC "gym" stormed by the best NBA players in the summer for incredible pickup games - were the spark that prompted him in the rumors of his possible arrival in the NBA, to the Detroit Pistons, on the advice of Master P.
Many have gone from professional sports careers to music, but no one had ever taken the opposite path. J.Cole is unique and not just musically.
