The NBA will allow players to switch their name with social messages on the jersey
The list defined by the League and the NBPA is official
July 6th, 2020
The NBA is ready to return. On July 30, operations resume at Disney World in Orlando, in a real bubble to ensure safety for all participants. In the meantime, the League not only launches rules to keep under control every dangerous case event within the game and training facilities, but also winks at current events. A current affair made of disrespect for the rights of African Americans and players, like Kyrie Irving, ready not to take the field to continue with social protests. The NBA does not stand by and revealed itself quickly, especially after the more or less declared attempt to boycott the return proposed by the Brooklyn Nets playmaker. In recent days, a list of social messages has been compiled that NBA players have included in their name on the back of their race shirts.
The list includes messages aimed primarily at racism and social injustice. The chosen word or phrase will replace the name, which will then be moved under the shirt number. The complete list includes Black Lives Matter, I Can’t Breathe, Vote, Justice, Stand Up, Listen, Listen to Us, Say Their Names, Peace, How Many More, Education Reform, Liberation, Equality, Freedom, Enough, Si Se Puede, Say Her Name, Mentor, I Am A Man, Speak Up, Ally, Anti-Racist, Justice Now, Power to the People, See Us, Hear Us, Respect Us, Love Us and Group Economics.
The NBA will also have the writing "Black Lives Matter" printed on the parquet. These manifestations of solidarity are only the beginning. Los Angeles Lakers coach Frank Vogel said the coaches "discussed what to wear during the matches, but also how we can make our voices heard and take advantage of the visibility to help this move."
