Barcelona will sell the Camp Nou naming rights
All proceeds will help finance the fight against coronavirus
April 22nd, 2020
"Més que un club" and it's really true. Barcelona is ready to write a significant page of its history and does it as always in a unique way, in its own way. Barça has announced that the naming rights of the largest stadium in Europe will be put on sale (only for 1 year) and the proceeds of the agreement will go to activities engaged in the fight against coronavirus.
From 1957, the year of inauguration of the plant, it was for everyone the Camp Nou, the "new field" but now it will become something else. In the 2020-21 season, in fact, the Governing Council of the Blaugrana team decided to take this step and "send a universal message" as stated in the note that bears the name of Jordi Cardoner, vice president of Barcelona. The sale of naming rights increasingly represents a marketing strategy and certainly benefits the finances of the company that undertakes this path. Juventus, for example, knows all too well, and will collect a total of 75 million euros from Allianz in the 6 years of sponsorship. Agreements that Allianz has with the facilities of Nice (Allianz Riviera), Vienna (Allianz Stadion), San Paolo (Allianz Parque) and had with the now ex Allianz Stadium in Sydney.
Profits that, as mentioned, will not cash Barça. The decision to sell the naming rights of the 105,000-seat stadium is similar to that taken in 2006, when the Blaugrana decided to reverse the roles in sponsorship and pay to have a jersey sponsor. In that case it was about UNICEF, which granted the jersey sponsor and in. exchange obtained 1.6 million euros which Barcelona paid into the coffers of the charitable foundation par excellence. This time the proceeds will strengthen the fight against the coronavirus, as can be seen from the note from the Catalan company:
"We want to send a global message: for the first time someone will have the opportunity to rename the Camp Nou with their own name, and the revenues will go to all humanity, not only to Barcelona. We are very happy to be able to carry on this initiative which offers something as emblematic as the name of our stadium so that institutions, organizations, companies can join it and as such contribute to the fight against Covid-19 since the their investment will be used to finance disease research projects and projects that work to reduce their effects"
A real responsibility that Barcelona assumes, which in the statement explains that "the board has taken a decision that has an exceptional character, up to the answer that humanity needs at this moment of great uncertainty: but all we must do our best to mitigate the effects of this global pandemic that paralyzed the planet". Més que un club, for real.
