The Daily Paper's football tournament in Ghana
The latest tribute to its origins by the Dutch fashion label
January 31st, 2020
Since its foundation in 2010, Daily Paper has been continually influenced by the African aesthetic and heritage. The Dutch fashion label has now returned to the African continent (and precisely to Ghana, the homeland of one of the three founders, Jefferson Osei) with a series of activations including a football tournament organized at the Accra Senior Girls School ground.
On the other hand, it's not the first time that Daily Paper decides to involve the Afro communities for one of their projects: it had already happened in 2017 when he decided to build a football pitch as part of a wide collaboration with PUMA, an alternative marketing move that could also help young local football fans and support the development of sport in less lucky countries. As stated by a Daily Paper spokesperson:
"Returning to the continent that inspired us to create our label has always been a dream for us".
The tournament took place on Sunday, 5th of January and involved six male and female teams who played against each other with PUMA soccer jerseys, designed for the occasion by Daily Paper. Alongside Daily Paper, the team formation also included many African artists and athletes such as La Meme Gang, Free the Youth, Starboy, Eunice Beckmann e Melanin Unscripted.
