The Manchester City retro collection
The jerseys are popular Citizens' vintage kits
October 21st, 2019
Manchester City unveiled a retro collection that covers a large parte of the club's history through eleven iconic kits from the past. Retro kits - available on the official Manchester City website, retail at around 38-50€ - are based on popular jerseys worn from the mid '50s to the late '90s. The collection features the FA Cup finals jerseys in 1956 and 1969 and those used by Citizens during the early '70s.
Two of the most iconic are the 1989-1990 home jersey and the 1998-1999 away jersey (part of the "UMBRO 95 - LO STILE SUL CAMPO" exhibition), even if they recall hard times for City. For a FouFourTwo interview out October 22th, Sterling was modeling these two retro jerseys during the photo shooting.
The first one made its debut in a bad season for City, who finished 14th. But that season remained unforgettable thanks to the historic 5-1 triumph at Maine Road over Manchester United in September 1989. The second retro jersey recalls the one used by Manchester City in the 1999 Wembley promotion final against Gillingham (City was in Second Division at the time).
