Five football matches to watch this weekend
Juve and PSG one point from the title, the Genoa and Istanbul derbies, Klopp against Sarri
April 12th, 2019
On the one hand the spring and thousand events of the Milan Design Week, on the other one of the richest sports schedules of the year: this time the choice on how to spend the weekend is harder than usual, but we will do the same to watch as many games as possible. In addition to the five (more bonus) that we recommend you, in Liga there are also the derbies of Seville and Valencia that we absolutely do not want to miss.
SPAL - Juventus
when: Saturday 13/4 at 3pm
where: Stadio Paolo Mazza/Sky Sport
Here we go: between the first leg and the return of the European double challenge against Ajax, Juventus has the opportunity to close the scudetto race with six rounds of advance, and only one point is needed, to be gained in the SPAL house, in full relegation struggle. Allegri will most likely do turnover, but still keep the champagne in the fridge because the party could still arrive.
AC Milan - Lazio
when: Saturday 13/4 at 8:30pm
where: San Siro/DAZN
They have already faced each other in the league and in the Italian Cup and meet again at San Siro in the Saturday night's match in a real Champions League play-off: the Rossoneri have three points ahead of the biancocelesti, but they have one match less. It's an appointment that neither of them wants to fail, especially the hosts who have won only one of the last five of the championship.
Sampdoria - Genoa
when: Sunday 14/4 at 3pm
where: Marassi/Sky Sport
Initially planned for Saturday, the derby della Lanterna will be played on Sunday afternoon: it's a game for which no special explanations are needed, it's the game that divides the city and even today is one of the most fascinating matches on the Italian scene, also if the two teams they are far from the top positions: while Samp are looking for points to a place in the Europa League spots, Genoa is still not arithmetically safe. But before any ranking calculation, beat the rivals are the primary target of the two teams.
Liverpool - Chelsea
when: Sunday 14/4 at 5:30pm
where: Anfield/Sky Sport
Liverpool fans still have in thir eyes the captain Gerrard's tumble who, on 27 April 2004, cost the Reds title. It was just a home game against Chelsea, which again will be crucial for the first place race, the one that Klopp's boys contend with Manchester City. On the other side there will be the Sarri's Chelsea who has risen to third place and that in the European away game in Prague has made rest many fundamental players.
Lille - PSG
when: Sunday 14/4 at 9pm
where: Stadium Lille Metropole/DAZN
After failing the first match point at home against Strasbourg, PSG has the second chance to win Ligue 1 well in advance in the Sunday night meeting in Lille, against the current second best team in the league. It will not be an easy game, given that Parisians are still without Neymar and with Cavani and Di Maria in doubt, but only one point will be enough to celebrate the French title number 8.
Bonus
Fenerbahce - Galatasaray
when: Sunday 14/4 at 6pm
where: Şükrü Saracoğlu
We could not spend two minutes to one of the most fiery derbies in Europe, the Istanbul derby between Fenerbahce and Galatasaray: a total challenge, which often gives tension and electricity on the field and in the stands. After the amazing 3-3 of the first leg and the maxi-final brawl, this time it will be played at the home of Sarı Kanaryalar, who are living a tragic season and are in full struggle to not relegate. Winning the derby (and avoiding rivals from approaching the top of the league) would be a minimal but significant satisfaction.
