Nike is remaking an iconic FC Barcelona jersey
A remake jersey to celebrate 20 years of partnership between Nike and the Blaugrana
April 8th, 2019
Nike has announced that it will release a historic Barcelona shirt - the one worn in the 1998/1999 season. After the years of Kappa sponsorship, the '98 / '99 season was the first of a collaboration between Nike and the blaugrana, finished with the victory of the sixteenth title in La Liga. Seated on the bench was Louis Van Gaal with assistants José Mourinho and André Villas Boas, while on the pitch the jersey was worn among others by Figo, Rivaldo, Kluivert, and Xavi, in his first season as a professional player.
Initially, the kit was designed for Clasico, but there could be opportunities to see it in one of the upcoming home matches at the Camp Nou.
The design of the shirt is based on the Vapor model, the same of the PSG-Jordan collaboration, with a slight V neck. On the front, there are 3 large vertical stripes, with the crest and the swoosh, embroidered in gold, placed one above the other in the upper part of the chest. The Catalan flag is placed into the collar in navy blue, a colour also used to finish the edges of the sleeves. The absence of a sponsor at the center of the jersey makes this model one of the most loved among the collectors and Barça's fans.
The jersey will be launched in a limited edition, starting from April 10th - the day in which Messi and teammates will take the field for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final, against Manchester United.
