Serie A adds sleeve sponsors on the clubs' shirt
Italian clubs will be allowed to add a patch on the left sleeve of the jersey
September 3rd, 2018
In the weeks when we relentlessly presented to you all the new Serie A kits, we often found ourselves surrounded by all the jersey sponsors of the Italian clubs, always more intrusive and, unfortunately, quite unaesthetic. And the bad news, at least for us that believe in the sacrality of the football shirt, is that the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has approved the addition of a new patch, the one on the sleeve, after the requests made by Italian clubs in the last months.
The news is no surprise, as the other top leagues in Europe already started the dances a few years ago and the Premier League also did it last year. The sleeve sponsors deal for the Serie A clubs won't’ likely reach the figures made by the English ones, but as we are in a moment when every little financial help is gold, the hope is that the patch on the sleeve could bring some incomes to the clubs. The patch will be applied on the left sleeve, as the right one is occupied by the Lega Serie A one.
These are the indications made by the Federation about the sleeve sponsor application: "Sponsorship advertising is allowed on the front of the shirt, on the back of the shirt (under the number) and on the left sleeve of the shirt; the total area occupied by advertising must not exceed 650 cm2.”
