If you try to ask a Brazilian supporter which is the lowest moment ever reached by the Seleção in its history, the answers may be two: the older ones would tell you the Maracanazo and the younger ones the Mineirazo. The two World Cup debacles are deeply engraved in the memories of the Brazilian supporters and players and that’s why Nike Football, ahead of the 2018 World Cup, decided to put the bad 7-1 defeat suffered against Germany on July 8, 2014, behind the back.

Among the imagery used for the launch of Brazil new away kit, in fact, Nike Football used a picture of Willian taken during the tragic night of the Mineirão. Of course, the pic has been heavily modified, and in fact, it has only been recognizable thanks to the observation spirit of a Twitter user. The pics have been used to present the new blue away kit, while during the game against Germany the Brazilian team wore the yellow one. Nike has also been careful about details… and competitors. First of all, it replaced Willian’s shoes, changing the old Mercurial Vapor X with the more recent Vapor 360, presented a few months ago.

The Swoosh also avoid every possibility of ‘occulted publicity’ for adidas, replacing the red and black kit of the German team with a generic black kit - even if you can still spot the Stripes on Khedira’s shoulders in the back - and also changing the ball, replacing the Nike Ordem V instead of the Brazuca, made by Adidas for the 2018 World Cup. Nerd gems besides, Nike is clearly attempting to put the Mineirazo behind Brazil’s back, launching them to the conquest of the sixth World Cup in history.
