Becks' dream

David Beckham finally got to start his long-time project to start a Miami-based football team in the MLS

Becks' dream David Beckham finally got to start his long-time project to start a Miami-based football team in the MLS

Yesterday night, after four years of planning and five years since his last professional game, David Beckham made the dream that came to his mind since the very moment he stopped playing football, true: to own his own football club. Since yesterday night, in fact, a second team is officially coming to Miami, after the Miami Fusion’s adventure, ended 17 years ago. Starting from 2020 (probably), the franchise led by Becks will make its official debut in the Major League Soccer.

The club is yet in an embryonic stage, but the property led by former Man United and Real Madrid already purchased a three acres land in the Overtown neighborhood to host the $200 stadium, that will host about 25,000 supporters. “People are turning around to me already and saying, ‘What players are you getting?’ We’re not at that stage yet,” Beckham explained to ESPN. “Yes, we have a wish list, yes we want to create a state-of-the-art academy that brings young talented local kids through the ranks. We have to set up the academy, that’s the first thing we do, and then we go from there.”

The team hasn’t even an official crest or team colors yet, but thanks to the help from the Mas brothers - that unsuccessfully tried to buy Miami’s baseball club in the last months - and Brightstar founder Marcelo Claure, Beckham was able to make his dream a reality. There was great satisfaction, also because of the many messages got by the Spice Boy: Tom Brady, Usain Bolt, Will Smith, Serena Williams, and many more. The Miami football club’s adventure is ready to start.
