Goalkeepers gloves are the most underrated objects in football fashion?

Crazy Gloves by The Glove Bag Goalkeepers gloves are the most underrated objects in football fashion?

Goalkeepers are normally the craziest persons on the pitch, and so were their shirts especially in the golden era of jersey psychedelia during the 80s and 90s. But the most iconic work instrument for goalkeepers - unlike the boots for the players - are their gloves, one of the most underrated and not enough appreciated objects in the football world. The Glove Bag is an online community founded and run by Simon Walker - an ex-new Zealand goalkeeper - that is merely centered on gloves: old advertisements, great photos, and crazy concepts. We've been in touch with Simon and ask a little bit about it:

I grew up and played in a time when goalkeeping gloves were fairly new to the market and there was only a few brands and gloves available. I love goalkeeping gloves and I love the fact that goalkeepers are so in love with their gloves! I like all gloves but have a particular love for gloves from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

The last concept that appeared on The Glove Bag Instagram's profile was a set of crazy concepts of goalkeepers gloves inspired by the official match balls of the World Cup editions.

We asked Simon about the inspiration and some design insights of the concepts:

I was inspired to design the World Cup Ball inspired gloves after seeing a picture of a pair of football boots which has been designed and made based on the 1998 Tricolore World Cup Ball. I saw the boots and I though the design could work on a pair of goalkeeping gloves. That came out pretty well and seemed very popular on social media. I did a few more designs based on other Adidas World Cup balls. Some came out quite well and others were not quite so successful. The curves of some of the designs i.e. The Tango and the Brazuca,  lends itself quite well to the curves on a goalkeepers glove. All designs were done on my IPad and drawn with my finger.
